What is a SupaMoto Nifty?
A SupaMoto Nifty is a digital representation of a clean cooking stove being used in Africa. Think of it like a modern “tamagochi” which connects you with a family in Africa which you have helped gaining access to clean and modern cooking. The SupaMoto Nifty will show you in real time (or near real time) when the family is cooking and when they buy waste biomass pellets, which is the fuel for cooking. It will also show you the estimated impact on their lives and the environment. It gives you the right to claim the carbon credits it generates. Each SupaMoto Nifty is unique, and the details are visible to the owner of the SupaMoto Nifty.

How do I know if my SupaMoto stove is being used?
As the owner of a Nifty, you can see the performance of the stove through the Impacts X app, or through our online dashboard. You can track the amount of carbon credits generated and in some cases see photos and updates from the family using the stove (in case that particular family has agreed to signed a waiver allowing the owner of the Nifty to see their photos).

What are carbon credits?
Carbon credits are a way to offset carbon emissions. Each SupaMoto Nifty saves around 3-4 tonnes of carbon emissions per year. This depends on how frequently the stove is being used. By owning a SupaMoto Nifty, you can claim these credits (for the duration that the Nifty was purchased for), represented by as CARBON tokens, which are 1kg units of CO2 emissions mitigated.

Is blockchain bad for the environment?
Initially the energy consumption required to process transactions on blockchains was extremely high. This was known as “Proof of Work” and resulted in high carbon emissions. As the technology advanced, Proof of Stake emerged as a more energy efficient way of processing blockchain transactions. Ixo is a climate neutral blockchain and offsets can be verified.

How do I know that these carbon credits are verifiable?
Carbon credits generated by digitally integrated clean cooking stoves that are used by beneficiaries. These credits are unique as they are calculated using Gold Standard’s methodology for Metered and Measured Devices. This is an innovation that was built in response to the over inflation of carbon credits. These carbon credits are based on performance data rather than estimated usage of the stove, and thus more accurate.

How does owning a SupaMoto Nifty help families in Africa?
When you buy a Nifty, the money goes towards providing more SupaMoto stoves to families in Africa. These stoves are cleaner, safer and more efficient than traditional cooking methods. One stove usually supports four household members in gaining access to clean cooking energy.

How do SupaMoto Niftys improve food and nutrition security?
Many households in emerging economies lack access to kitchen appliances, such as stoves and refrigerators. Research shows that access to these kitchen appliances influences food choices.
